If you’ve been following the trials and tribulations of me learning to code, you’ll be happy to know I’ve conquered the dragon known as string if/else statements.

I’m not actually sure if that’s what they’re called… but it’s what I’m going to call them.

In my last post, Success with Scripts, I lamented at length about how I had tried and failed to figure out how to make a website call me a nerd.

For a creative writer, I’m sometimes not that creative.

The idea was that when you access the web page a dialog pops up asking you to enter the Pokemon you’d like to start with. But, if you enter anything other than “sally” the website calls you a nerd.

Success is a Pokemon named Sally.

My web page (which isn’t fancy, but still contains some clean HTML and CSS) will congratulate anyone who prefers pokemon named Sally on their “Great choice!”, but if you enter any other value…

Nerd!

I think doing silly things like that is fairly common practice in the coder community. I’m basing this on the few programmers I know, who always have interesting stories to tell about their projects. The truth is, coding is laborious…
