You Have the Right to Share

Something sparked my anger today… I don’t want to give another moment’s thought or attention to the individual responsible, so I decided to turn their poor behavior into something productive. Let me start with this:

You have the right to share, and you should share things with others. I’m not talking about possessions like some first-grade lesson on kindness. I mean you have the right to express your needs, your feelings, and yourself no matter what anyone tells you.

More and more people are opening their eyes to the realities of mental health, but so many others are still conditioned to keep their problems to themselves and smile through their anguish. Unfortunately, there are even those who will try to force you to repress yourself through derogatory comments and sarcasm, or whatever methods of bullying they’re most comfortable with.

Ignore them. Anyone who tells you you cannot or should not share something that feels like it needs to come out is wrong in a million ways.

If you don’t express your needs, no one will ever know how to help you. This applies exponentially to situations involving mental illness, because no one can see the wounds that scar your mind, heart, and soul. You have to tell others about them, and you should.
